Overview
Students of all ages invest time looking for a space they can sit and work in the real world. Sip & Study leverages data from popular crowd sourced review platforms to make a coffee shop’s major benefits accessible at a glance. This is a conceptual project that I completed individually.
Opportunity
Students of all ages will consult multiple apps, people and websites to make a final decision when looking for a place to study. How might we streamline the process and make this easy to find?

Solution
Sip & Study helps students of all ages discover coffee shops near them that offer features they are looking for. We accomplish this by filtering in amenities and highlights of location at a glance, and using custom search criteria to find reviews on existing apps that fit user’s needs.

Stay A While
One of the most common asks when conducting user interviews was the ability to see what a specific location offers without having to dig for information. The coffee shop view offers the amenities, the traffic, and the vibes right up front for users to see.

Quick View
Again prioritizing the necessities, this view allows users to take a quick glance when searching for what is available to them without having to click through multiple screens. This page highlights neighborhood, amenities, and business hours to easily view how much time you can spend at this business.
Reviews
The Reviews section aggregates data from popular crowd source review apps like Foursquare and Yelp. Sip & Study would search keywords on these platforms to pull in relevant reviews.

Process

User Research
To get to know my target audience, I conducted interviews that focused around some of the following questions:
What do you look for when searching for place to work or study at?
How do users currently do their research?
What do you wish was done differently?
What are the need to haves? The good to haves?
Competitive Analysis
Based on user interviews, I took a look at three apps that were comparable to what I was trying to accomplish. These were Yelp, Foursquare and Google Maps.

Affinity Mapping
Based on answers to questions regarding what users look for in a coffee shop and how they do their research, I gathered my findings into an affinity diagram to highlight insights of my users.

Future Features
This was part of a conceptual project that aimed at designing the cafe detail screen. Future features would include:
Requesting a ride through the app
Public transit wait times
Sharing/ rating features
Lessons Learned
Working on this challenge helped me realize there are a lot of great options out there already, but many are flooded with irrelevant information trying to do everything at once. It is not necessarily about packing everything into one place, but listening to users to highlight the most impactful parts to create something intuitive and accessible.
